All Hallow's Eve Celebrations

We had three nights of gluttonous candy eating, found our new home has a welcoming, wonderful downtown district that celebrates in style and still love that the pumpkin fairy will come on Halloween night and exchange all your extra candy for a special gift... AnaSofia wanted to be a princess this year, Rapunzel to be exact. So we found a pattern (McCall's 6141) during the Joann's 99 cent sale and bought $6.00 worth of fabric at our local fabric shop. Perfect... The pattern was one of the more difficult sewing adventures I have undertaken and took me a bit of time to wrestle with the fancy fabric and the details of the pattern. I ended up sewing on another front panel to make it a less low cut (hello? she is five)and to fit my slim jim a little better on the shoulders. I was pretty happy with the end results and she is thrilled with it. The only regretful expense was that I let her pick out a wig ("I want really REALLY long hair Mama!") so she picked out an Elvira style one (because it was long you know!) and wore it for five minutes the week before Halloween and it was a knotty mess after that five minutes of fun. Agh... So I secretly bought her a long blonde one and braided it but she did not want to wear it on the night of Halloween ("I am my own warrior princess with long enough hair Mama!" Oh... okay...). I am learning!
Little K dude wanted to be a dinosaur for weeks and switched to a "warrior dragon" in the last few days. Thankfully both were capable thanks to one of my favorite sewing books and a little tweaking. I used her jacket pattern (the 18-24 month old pattern) and changed the dimensions some, added some fangs, sharp nails and a tail to complete the look. I found the fabric really cheap at our fabric depot and planned to make pants too but just got lazy so he is wearing his quick change trousers from the same book... I guess the nose came out a little beak like but I was trying to meld almost three year old ideas ("I want to be a green dragon with a red nose and a button that pushes!") with my skills, there was no button! I am hoping he will wear the coat this Fall and Spring some as it is lined in flannel and has a hood!
They were so happy to head out each day (really THREE days of trick or treating and parties, next year I am planning better!)
The big guy met us in town Friday night to go to a few places downtown. It was such a perfect weekend, I love this time of year... I miss doing our Halloween party, but hopefully we will start up the tradition again next year!
Happy Halloween!
