A Humbling Experience...

My devoted readers all need a good laugh, right? I mean, it is still winter in many parts of the world despite the April calendar date AND it is at my expense so - why not?!

As many of you might recall, I have wanted to sew since I was eight. I used to draw dress ideas into my notebooks and dream about designing fantastic couture pieces. So my hubs saw my ambition and drive, and like many other hair-brained ideas of mine, he wholly supported it. Usually these things work out well for the hubs: a house when we were only 25, a cute little daughter, saving money by only using 2 squares etc.

Well, the coin has flipped. My ambition to be a talented seamstress should have died when I was eight like my other juvenile dreams to be an astronaut or to never eat vegetables when I was an adult. My error was I assumed sewing would be easy (Who needs patterns? Fashion designers CREATE, I can create too). Well, the pillow came out okay even though I used the garbage can as a template(evidenced in earlier post). Emboldened, I thought next to try an outfit for AnaSofia. I thought a dress might be too difficult (yes I do have some sense of risk)and instead I tried a little overall suit (what was I thinking?).

AnaSofia has been watching me work on her outfit for the past few weeks with great interest and has even sat still for a few fittings. Well, the problems started after the outfit was pretty much done and I decided I needed to rip it all apart and add in backing (afterthought of a novice). So I did. AND... I was left with much less fabric than when I started... So last night was the official inauguration of the overalls. I was so excited to have her put on something I had made for her and it was made all the more horrible by how PROUD she was to put them on. Do you see her face (yeah, check mine out too - I'm such a sucker!!!). She was SO incredibly excited...

Soon our WAY TOO intelligent 21 month old also realized that her pants weren't fitting right (you should see the butt shots - she is eating the seat of the pants). And she thought it was hilarious (okay, we all did). And she started giggling, posing and making a mockery of Mommy's hardwork. But it was SO FUNNY, I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. So maybe you will too. Enjoy the photos! XOXO

Oh my gosh Jenn. That is the most hilarious thing ever!! I am laughing out loud. Sigh. I remember being really super impressed that you were going to make overalls without even a pattern b/c I can barely do it WITH a pattern. Sigh. Well, we need to plan a time to sew together and maybe even use a pattern....:)

Those pictures are so adorable. I love that fabric by the way! good for you for trying and being able to laugh about it later. I would have done the same thing, I mean seriously why bother with a pattern! :) If you had you wouldn't have those adorable pictures of her hamming it up. I can't wait to see you all soon! love and hugs Sarah

Wow...what a great ending to a stressful day...I LOVE the fabric choice and I LOVE that you tried!!! She'll love it when she gets older, it will be one of those moments when she can, without any doubt know that her mom was ALL ABOUT making her happy, and getting a chuckle in at the same time. :P
