First Sign of Spring

Early this morning we finally saw the river otter racing across the ice on the back pond. That has been the first sign of Spring for us here in Maine for the past few years. And true to our thoughts, it is 45 today and large portions of ice are raining from the roof despite a Nor'easter yesterday. Amazing! This time of year we often wonder what it would be like to live somewhere WARM, but I am always astounded by the coming of a new season in the Northeastern US. There is nothing like it. In Upstate NY I think of the apple and cherry blossoms bursting on trees, in Denmark the incredible green colors that appear after a dark winter and here in Maine it is the emergence of animals - deer, bears and birds that make it magical. I could not feel more blessed than I do on days like this.
